Ser and estar
Ser is for who someone is, their job, origin, and time. Estar is for where they are, how they feel, and the result of a change. In a photo task, place is almost always estar: «están sentados».
Examples
La mujer es en la cocina.
La mujer está en la cocina. Es cocinera.
El café es frío.
El café está frío.
